The German designer and performance artist Helena Dietrich is since six years working and living in Brussels. After her Master in Visual Communication at the Merz Academy Stuttgart and the University of Portsmouth, she conducted a research project at a.pass in Brussels. In her artistic work she is interested in the analyzation of the impact of visual information on identity and therefore culture. She wants to challenge a different relation to aesthetics through an alignment of representative images and the experienced body. Her artistic approach is often process-based and involves the audience as participants at different stages. In her charged installations she works one-on-one, using and creating objects, images and costumes as tools for transformative experiences. The immersive atmospheres and settings invite the audience into self-contemplation. Her work finds a wide range expression from performance and installation to video and photography. It has been exhibited amongst others at Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, Beursschouwburg Brussels, Kaai Theater Brussels, Stuk Leuven, Brakkegrond Amsterdam and Cinema Galeries Brussels.
